Martin’s Tavern is a historic restaurant and bar located in the heart of Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Established in 1933, it is the city’s oldest family-owned restaurant, operated for four generations by the Martin family. The tavern is celebrated for its classic American fare and for being a meeting place of presidents, politicians, athletes, and celebrities for nearly a century.

Martin’s Tavern is steeped in local and national history. It famously hosted every U.S. president from Harry S. Truman to George W. Bush, as well as President Joe Biden. The restaurant’s most legendary moment came when John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier in one of its booths, now known as the “Proposal Booth.” The establishment retains its old-Georgetown charm through its dark wood interiors, brass accents, and cozy booths named after its famous patrons.
George Washington's Mount Vernon
